Journey to Uganda

Wednesday we began our journey at the Memphis Int airport where we boarded our first flight only to have to deboard and rebook the flight from Atlanta to Detroit. Due to mechanical issues with the plane our itinerary was changed so that we now had an 8 hour layover in Amsterdam. We were excited at the prospect at touring Amsterdam for a few hours but were concerned about how the new schedule would effect our plans. Leaving Detroit we landed in Amsterdam after an 8 hour flight with zero sleep. Energized by my first experience in Europe and the amazing airport I was ready to see more. We first took a train to central station where we toured the nearby area. I was surprised by the large number of people riding bikes as a means of transportation. Some dresses formally others casually. It appears to be a way of life for the people of Amsterdam. And why not, seems like a great way to maintain regular exercise and health. The people were mostly young, attractive, well dress ed and out soaking up the sunshine at cafes that lines the cobble streets. The canals were an amazing sight to behold as well as the breath-taking architecture. I felt extremely lucky to in such a beautiful city, full of life. For lunch we went to Semai restaurant at the recommendation of a close friend. The food was absolutely amazing and the best Eritrean/Ethiopian food I'd ever had. The service was wonderful and the interior design was traditional yet not overdone. We spent the rest of our time in Amsterdam walking the streets and taking in the scenic views. Tired yet satisfied we returned to the airport to board mother 7 hour flight, this time to Uganda by way of Kenya. Can't wait to see what is in store for the next leg of our journey!
